There are many different types of coffee maker, and the one you choose should reflect your taste and lifestyle. Why do we say this? Because there is nothing worse than buying an all-singing, all-dancing coffee maker if it ends up sitting in the corner of your kitchen (or worse, in a cupboard) gathering dust.
If you're a coffee fanatic and have the time to savour the rich aroma and taste of a freshly brewed cup of coffee, then consider a machine that combines a filter drip system with high-pressure espresso. Many of these machines also incorporate a steam nozzle for frothing milk for the perfect Cappucino.
Can't be doing with those messy filter papers? Some machines come with a permanent foil filter that you simply empty, wash out and use again.
The permanent filter is still to much of a chore? You might want to consider a Pod or Capsule system. These use small foil packets containing the ground coffee. The machine automatically opens the pod and uses it in situ. You simply eject the used pod and there's no messy coffee grinds to clean up.
For those who like the simplicity of instant coffee, but prefer the taste of real coffee, why not try a cafetiere? This is a glass or metal jug in which you place the ground coffee. Add hot water and fit the plunger - but don't push it down. Wait a few minutes for the coffee to brew and then press the plunger down to the bottom of the jug. This pushes the coffee grinds to the bottom and traps them behind a fine filter. You can now serve your coffee without getting coffee grinds in your cup.
